A Theory of Design in Biology
In this video, Richard introduces an article which discusses how we view design in biology. There are two alternatives, namely:
- Biology is the result of a random evolutionary process, which at the very best would have cobbled together a satisfactory design, which at least works, or:
- It is the product of intelligent design, is a feat of master engineering, and as such has been created with optimal design.
The evolutionary approach leads to ideas about vestigial organs and the lack of optiomal design in certain systems, though as knowledge increases, these things often tend to get discredited. On the other hand however, we increasingly see the product of master engineering and optimal design, so much so, that engineers are beginning to take inspiration from biological systems.
All we can do is to give glory to God as creator and master designer.
