IT and its Effect on Concentration

IT and its Effect on Concentration (even if the content is good!)

In this video and article, Richard looks at the subject of IT, particularly in relation to education and learning, and how these issues are approached within his own school. Whilst IT is itself a wonderfully useful tool, not least in its use within the work of the Kingdom of God, it can become too much of an easy option in providing entertainment to young children. The concern is expressed, that too much exposure to IT too soon in life, can actually impair a child's ability to learn and think for him/herself.

The Human Condition - Made in the Image of God

In this video and article, Richard talks about the significance of the fact that we are made in the image of God. This is an amazing concept, and yet it is something that has been seriously marred by sin and the Fall. Human efforts to put things right and create a Utopian society have always ended in failure. Even so, the fact remains that we are made in the image of God, and that our primary purpose and function is to live in relationship with Him. This is still possible, thanks to the redemptive work of Christ and will see its consummation at the end of time.

Earth's magnetic field - Evidence for a Recent Creation

Earth's magnetic field - Evidence for a Recent Creation

This is the second of Richard's videos in his series on cosmology, and looks at the subject of the earth's magnetic field. Research shows the magnetic field is declining at a steady rate, and if this is extrapolated back, its maximum possible age is only 6-10 thousand years, as it is simply too strong to go back billions of years. Furthermore, other planets and moons in the solar system have magnetic fields, which are likewise too strong to be billions of years old. This provides yet more evidence in favour of a recent creation.

Too Hot to be Old - a Recently Created Solar System

This is the first of a series of videos which Richard is going to do in the field of cosmology. This video and the associated article look at the subject of our solar system. If the universe were 4.6 billion years old, as is generally claimed, we would expect the various planets and moons to have completely cooled down after such a long period of time. With advances in space exploration, recent findings have in fact discovered the very opposite, with many of the planets and their moons actively showing signs of heat and volcanic activity. This fits far better with the idea of a recent creation, rather than a long history of billions of years.

Your Designed Body

Your Designed Body

The article introduced in this video is a review of the book "Your Designed Body", written by a medical doctor and an engineer. Whilst biology has been greatly influenced by evolutionary thinking, engineering is all about design and creating things to perform a function. This book demonstrates how the human body is an amazing piece of design, showing characteristics of irreducible complexity (the idea that each part cannot perform a useful function without the other parts being in place). The book also addresses some of the claims of 'poor design', and shows how most of these can be refuted without much difficulty. We are once again presented with the fact that biological systems have got to be the product of intelligent design, and that the designer has got to be God.

The Arrow of Time or Human Progress?

The Arrow of Time or Human Progress?

In this video Richard talks about the subject of progress. It is said that our human society is constantly progressing, and whilst this is certainly true in the field of technological advancement, this type of thinking goes on to embrace the concept of moral advancement. As Christians however, we have to realise that there has in fact been a significant amout of moral decline. Whilst we see spiritual progress in the timeline of the Bible, from the call of Abraham through to the coming of Jesus and the birth of the Gospel, we need to see the latter as a baseline to which we refer back at all times. The next major event in God's timeline will be the return of the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Wisdom of this World?

The Wisdom of this World?

This video and the associated article discuss the need to have discernment between God's wisdom and the wisdom of the world. Whilst we are made in God's image, and can have imparted wisdom from God, we neverthless need to be aware of the fact that our society has moved away from its Judeo-Christian roots, and as such, need to be increasingly cautious in the way that we embrace new ideas.

Design in the Process of Human Birth

Design in the Process of Human Birth

This video and article look at the amazing subject of childbirth. The body system of a baby in the womb operates in a way, whereby all oxygen and nutrition is taken from the mother via the placenta. At birth, the baby's body has to switch into a completely new mode of operation, which involves breathing and feeding for itself. Whilst both systems are in themselves an amazing feat of design, we also need to see that the mechanism which co-ordinates the change from on mode of operation to the other, all at exactly the right time, is also a wonderful creation and product of design. This can surely only be the work of a creator God.

Authority or Oppression?

Authority or Oppression?

In this video and article, Richard talks about the matter of authority and oppression. Whilst people may be oppressed where there is a misuse of authority, we can easliy get carried away with a worldly view and be quick to stand up for our rights. We must be reminded that authority of government is given by God for the protection and wellbeing of society, with the worst form of government being that of anarchy. Whilst there is a place for standing up for what is right, this should be done as a last resort and in an orderly manner. Look at the example of the 19th Century Christians, whose actions ultimately led to the abolition of slavery.

World Priorities in the Light of Eternity

In this video and article, Richard looks at a list of issues that affect human life, both now on earth and in the light of eternity. The first item on his list is entitled "Teaching of evolution and militant secularism that destroys Christianity", and Richard reaches a conclusion that this is the most serious of them all, because of the profound effect that it has on the Gospel, and hence the opportunity for people to receive the gift of eternal life.
