Modern miracles confirm the Bible

In this video, Richard talks initially about the importance which God attached to miracles as a revelation of Himself within the pages of Scripture. These include:

  • Old Testament miracles, particularly those associated with the Exodus.
  • Miracles of Jesus.
  • Miracles performed by the apopstles in the early Church.

He then goes on to imply, that if God attached such importance to miracles in the Bible, is it any surprise that miracles are happening today? Not only that, but many of these miracles can be authenticated, and the vast majority have taken place within the context of Christianity. If people in the Bible were without excuse when divine witnessing miracles, is this not going to be all the more so in the world today?

The Moral Law

In this video and article, Richard makes a comparison between a secular foundation for the moral law with a more biblical one, suggesting that with the evidence for Christianity now so overwhelming, it would be wise to base our concept of morality on God's knowledge of what is good and evil rather than our very imperfect understanding.

Our Eternal Future

This post is a follow-on from the previous two days' posts, and forms part of the conclusion of Richard's Masters Degree research into modern mircales. Having come to the conclusion that God is real, and that the Bible is an accurate revelation of Him, we have to look at the whole matter of eternity and the choice that each individual has to make between eternal life and eternal judgement. In today's article, Richard has compiled a list of the various references to eternity, made by Jesus within the record of the four Gospels. The sheer quantity and weight of these sayings can only go to show what an important issue this subject is.

A Very Significant Safeguarding Issue

A Very Significant Safeguarding Issue

In the modern world, we are familiar with the concept of safeguarding. This may come in the form of safeguarding policies for those working with children, youth or vulnerable adults, but has also been seen in the likes of the measures imposed to protect the population from the COVID-19 pandemic. If safeguarding is seen as important in the physical realm, then how much more should we be taking it seriously in the spiritual realm?

This video and article come by way of a conclusion to Richard's Masters Degree research into modern miracles (see yesterday's post). If modern mircales confirm the reality of the God of Christianity and the Bible as an accurate revelation of Him, then we have to take very seriously what is said. In particular we need to take heed of the choice given to each individual to accept eternal like or face eternal judgement. This is safeguarding in the truest sense of the word.

Modern Miracles Dissertation (final draft)

Modern Miracles Dissertation (final draft)

In this video, Richard introduces the final draft of his Masters Degree dissertation on modern miracles. Whilst the article itself may be heavy reading for many, the video is easy to listen to and well worth watching. In short:

  1. There is overwhelming evidence that miracles do occur in the world today, many of which are backed by medical records. If this is the case, then it can be reasonably concluded that the world is not a closed system where everything has a physical cause, but can be subject to outside influences.
  2. There is also evidence that the majority of modern miracles occur in the context of Christianity, and as such, there is a strong defence of the case for the God of Christianity, and hence the authority of the Bible.
  3. Given the authority of the Bible, we need to take seriously what it says, particularly in relation to eternity and salvation.

Science and Miracles

In this video and article, Richard talks about the implication of scientific method in relation to the supernatural. It is totally reasonable that observable things should be interpreted in terms of science and natural causes wherever possible. This does not however rule out the fact that other things such as creation, the Flood and modern miracles cannot reasonably be explained by science and must be attributed to the divine work of God.

Attention and Truth

In this video, Richard makes reference to an article of his own that forms part of his study for his Masters degree in philosophy. It may make heavy reading for some, but the following two points come out in the video:-

  1. The search for truth needs to based on the objective and not the subjective. As Christians, our search for truth is firmly based on the premise that God exists and is alive.
  2. In our modern culture we often see a low attention span amongst peope, and yet when studying to find the truth, we need to be disciplined in paying constant attention to what we are doing.

Persuasion

Persuasion is something that we encounter a lot in life, namely where one person attempts to bring another round to his/her own way of thinking. In this video and article, Richard looks at the philosphical aspect of this, particularly in relation to evangelism. Two important points that come out are:

  1. In order to try and persuade someone, we need to be totally sure that what we believe is right and will stand up to scrutiny.
  2. It is important that we present all the facts so that people have the necessary information to come to their own conclusion.

Historicy of the Bible

In this video and article, Richard discusses some of the theories being put forward by modern scholars about the historical origins of the various books of the Bibles. Many of these theories are complex and not sufficiently grounded in firm evidence for us to simply be throwing away 1800 years of church tradition.

The Church's attitude to Miracles throughout History

In this video, Richard talks about the role of miracles throughout church history. Although miracles were comparitively rare until the last 120 years or so, the role of miracles in upholding the validity of the Bible was nevertheless considered as being a matter of importance.
