Australian Mega Sequence Confirms the Bible

A mega sequence is a term given to a set of layers of sedimentary rocks. We see the same pattern of mega sequences across all continents, with sandstone (heaviest) at the bottom, mudstone above it, and then limestone (lightest) at the top. The latest discovery to complete this picture was in the Australian continent. This global pattern of rock deposits is absolutely consistent with the idea of a recent global worldwide flood, far more so that with the idea of millions of years. Added to this, we have the matter of soft tissue in fossils within these mega sequences, yet again affirming that they are only thousands of years old, and hence defending the authenticity of the Bible.

Genesis 1-11 and Old Bible Commentaries

In this video and article, Richard introduces some of his own research into the coverage of creation and the Flood in various Bible commentaries between about the years 1650 and 2000. A distinctive pattern occurs in that up to the mid 19th Century, every one talked about a literal 6-day creation and a universal global flood, but after that time, we see a loss of confidence in these things and a move towards long age thinking and a localised flood. What we can learn from this is that creationism is not a new thing from recent years. A 6-day creation and universal flood has been the belief of the Church throughout most of its age, and that it is only when the academic world began to reject these things in the mid 19th Century that thinking began to be compromised. If we look at the evidence before us, we can once again regain our confidence in Genesis 1 to 11.

Darwin's Finches

Darwin's Finches

In this video, Richard introduces two articles which demonstrate how evolution no longer makes sense in the light of increasing knowledge and understanding.

  1. Darwin's finches from the Galapagos Islands have always been a classic text book example of evolution at work, and yet as more is understood of the complexity of genetics, it has become increasingly apparent that the ability to adapt to the environment is actually built into the genetic code. This bears all the hallmarks of deliberate design, with mechanisms built in to perform such functions. The different beak sizes in finches is very much an example of such adaptation, and as such do not provide conclusive evidence for long age evolution.
  2. Evolutionary theory is based on the idea or random mutations. As more is understood, there is now evidence emerging that living organisms may actually have mechanisms in place to defend against mutations. Considering that the vast majority of mutations are going to be destructive, such a defence mechanism would make a lot of sense as a design feature. This could actually lead to one saying that life was designed NOT to evolve.

The Lord who made Heaven and Earth

The Lord who made Heaven and Earth

In this video and article, Richard talks about the various references to "The Lord who made Heaven and Earth" that we find in Scripture. We see it in the giving of the Ten Commandments and also within various prayers that were offered up, in both the Old and New Testaments. The message here, is that much importance is given to God's role as Creator. We are now living in an age where this attribute of God is very much rejected, but we need to be challenged this seriously and to honour His role in creation, in the way that has been set out in Scripture.

The Genesis Flood

The Genesis Flood

In this video, Richard introduces an article by Tas Walker, which seeks to answer some of the common questions raised regarding Noah's flood. These include things like (1) "Could Noah build an ark that big?", (2) "How did all the animals fit in?" and (3) "Where did the water come from?". After this we are taken on to ask two much more fundamental questions:

  1. Where is the evidence? There is certainly plenty of evidence, not least in that provided by fossils and rock layers.
  2. Why did God flood the earth? He did so by way of judgement for sin, and just as Noah and his family were saved through the ark, we can also be saved from God's judgement by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Hymns of Eternal Truth

In this video and article, Richard shares about the hymn book 'Hymns of Eternal Truth', which is well known to us here at Longcroft and also within other churches with which we have links. It is a collection of 120 hymns by Charles Wesley, and Richard expresses his appreciation of the richness of the words and their underlying truths and also of the tunes. The article contains a number of YouTube links for performances of various hymns in the book.

Climate Change

In this video and article, Richard talks about environmental issues and climate change, and asks how we should view such matters. On the one hand, the video and article basically express support for the idea that we have a responsibility to care for the environment. On the other hand however, with regard to climate change, this is shown to be a somewhat complex issue with no easy straightforward answers, and it is left open for further thought and discussion.

Evidence for a Worldwide Flood – How Robust?

Evidence for a Worldwide Flood - How Robust?

In this video, Richard introduces his response to the book 'The Grand Canyon - Monument to an Ancient Earth', and there are two links, one to a set of slides and the other to the written article. The article lists the main arguments against a recent worldwide flood made in the book, along with links to available responses defending the Biblical standpoint. Richard goes on to say how there is overwhelming evidence for a recent worldwide flood, and how the Flood is a picture of God's judgement and the coming judgement at the end of the age.

Intercession and the Second Coming

Intercession and the Second Coming

In this video and article, Richard looks at the subject of intercession, citing the examples of Esther, Abraham, Jacob and Moses from the Old Testament. These ones were interceding in situations where something major was about to happen. This is equally true today, particularly as the Second Coming is at hand, thus creating an urgent need for us to pray for our nation, that people might find God.

TEs: Genomic Parasites or Engineered Design?

TEs: Genomic Parasites or Engineered Design?

In this video, Richard introduces an article about transposable elements (TEs), which is a term given to sections of DNA that are able to change their position in the overall genetic infrastructure, and are sometimes known as 'jumping genes'. They form a substantial parft of the genetic code. Evolutionary theory has suggested that these were introduced as 'parasites' and then later developed a useful function. As more is discovered, it becomes increasingly apparent that these are in fact very complex in the way they function and can only reasonably be the product of intelligent design. If they are designed, then there has to be a designer, and this inevitably points us to the God of the Bible. Richard concludes by encouraging us to acknowledge God and to get into a right relationship with Him.
