Do we need a modern liturgy?

[Posted on: 02 July 2025 by Richard Worsley]

Do we need a modern liturgy?

In this video, Richard freeky admits that he is not advocating a return to liturgical forms of worship. Having said that however, he points out that one of the values of liturgy is that it has reminded people of the fundamentals of what we believe as Christians. Whatever our style of worship, it is of paramount importance that in our lives, we are totally clear about what we believe.

The BBC and the Challenge of Psalm 2

[Posted on: 26 June 2025 by Richard Worsley]

The BBC and the Challenge of Psalm 2

In this video and article, Richard continues with the challenge of Psalm 2, now taking up the matter of the BBC, having preached on a number of occasions outside the BBC Headquarters in London. If the BBC prides itself in upholding truth and professionalism, then the challenge is that it should take a serious look at the evidence for the following, in all cases backed up by research and work on the part of experts:

  • Modern miracles.
  • Intelligen design.
  • Genetic entropy.
  • Soft tissues in Fossils, especially dionsaurs.

Psalm 2 and our Government

[Posted on: 24 June 2025 by Richard Worsley]

Psalm 2 and our Government

This is another video and article which Richard has based upon the theme of Psalm 2.

He starts by mentioning the various lines of evidence that lead us increasingly to see that the Bible is a true revelation of God, including the matters of soft tissues in fossils, the complexity of DNA plus that of modern mircales. He then goes on to say that this should act as a challenge to the Government of our nation to seriously consider these things, and to return to the Christian heritage that once was ours.

The Practicalities of Holiness

[Posted on: 20 June 2025 by Richard Worsley]

The Practicalities of Holiness

In this video and article, Richard talks about the subject of holiness. There are two aspects of this, namely:

  • Imputed holiness, which we have as part of our birthright.
  • Imparted holiness, which is the process by which God’s laws are written on our hearts.

In previous revivals and moves of the Spirit, much emphasis was placed on holiness, but in today’s world with all its temptation, maintaining holiness can be a challenge. Richard goes on to discuss some of the practical things that can help us in this respect.

Two Apostasies?

[Posted on: 18 June 2025 by Richard Worsley]

Two Apostasies?

In this video and article, Richard discusses the idea of two apostasies. In the New Testament, much was said about a future falling away. As we look at history, we can see this effectively as two processes:

  • A religious falling away, which ultimately culminated in the Reformation
  • A secular falling away in the post-Reformation years, which has come about with the rise in materialism and the resulting rejection of God.

In order to survive this second apostasy, we are encouraged to practice the art of holiness.

Origin of the Universe, the Earth & Life

[Posted on: 13 June 2025 by Richard Worsley]

Origin of the Universe, the Earth & Life

In this video, Richard introduces a brief article which addresses and summarises some of the main ways in which we can argue in favour of a biblical explanation for the origin of the universe, the earth and life. Points covered include:

  • The origin of the universe itself is beyond scientific reasoning, as we just don’t have the necessry knowledge.
  • There is clear evidence that the earth is young, particularly when we look at the matter of soft tissue in fossils.
  • Life is extremely complex and as such has to be the work of intelligent design.
  • In the natural world, things tend to decay over time, which goes completely against the idea of long age evolution.
  • Modern miracles provide powerful evidence that the Bible is a true revelation of God.

Psalm 2 and the Academic Community

Psalm 2 and the Academic Community

In this video and article, Richard uses Psalm 2 as an apt description of the state of the world today. He challenges society, and in particular the academic community, to consider the evidence for God, which now clearly exists in great abundance. People have the choice to reject it and face judgement, to to accept it and be received by God.

The Historicist Interpretation of the Book of Revelation

[Posted on: 23 May 2025 by Richard Worsley]

The Historicist Interpretation of the Book of Revelation

There exist four standard interpretations of the Book of Revelation:

  1. The Preterist Interpretation, in which the prophecies were fulfilled within a few decades of New Testament times.
  2. The Historicist Interpretation, in which the prophecies were fullfilled over the centuries/millenia that followed. This was the generally accepted interpretation from the time of the Reformation up to about 1850.
  3. The Futurist Interpretation, in which the prophecies relate to a future period of seven years immediately before the Second Coming. This became the more widely accepted interpretation after about 1850.
  4. The Idealist Interpretation, which sees it as a general pattern of good over evil, rather than a specific set of prophecies with literal fulfilment.

Because prophecy can have multiple fulfilment, the various interpretations are not necessarily mutually exclusive. In this video and article, Richard looks more closely at the details of the Historicist Interpretation.

But God – a Second Reformation?

[Posted on: 20 May 2025 by Richard Worsley]

But God – a Second Reformation?

This is based on a recent talk given by Richard to the congregation at Longcroft. It is in some respects a follow-on from the earlier post But God, likewise going through the six “But God …” quotes from the Gospels, and then asking the question as to whether God is able to do a new major work in the present era.

The ‘Watch (1)’ link is to the YouTube video in which Richard introduces the subject; the ‘Watch (2)’ link is to the actual talk at Longcroft (46 mins). The ‘Read’ link is to a copy of the slideshow.

N.B. During the recording at Longcroft, some of the slides were skipped too quickly to be read while the talk was given, so you will need to refer to the written copy of the slideshow for all the information.

Ancient Paths

[Posted on: 29 April 2025 by Richard Worsley]

Ancient Paths

In this video and article, Richard talks about a word given to him in conversation a few years ago. In Jeremiah 6:16 we read: “Stand by the roads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is; and walk in it, and find rest for your souls.” (ESV).

In seeking after new ways and ideas, the Church has lost a lot by way of good traditions that existed from the time of the Refoormation up until the 20th Century. Just as the Reformation itself was something of a return to ancient paths in the reinstatement of Biblical teaching and thinking, so likewise today, we are in very great need something of a new Reformation and a return to the ancient paths.
