The Historicist Interpretation of the Book of Revelation

There exist four standard interpretations of the Book of Revelation:

  1. The Preterist Interpretation, in which the prophecies were fulfilled within a few decades of New Testament times.
  2. The Historicist Interpretation, in which the prophecies were fullfilled over the centuries/millenia that followed. This was the generally accepted interpretation from the time of the Reformation up to about 1850.
  3. The Futurist Interpretation, in which the prophecies relate to a future period of seven years immediately before the Second Coming. This became the more widely accepted interpretation after about 1850.
  4. The Idealist Interpretation, which sees it as a general pattern of good over evil, rather than a specific set of prophecies with literal fulfilment.

Because prophecy can have multiple fulfilment, the various interpretations are not necessarily mutually exclusive. In this video and article, Richard looks more closely at the details of the Historicist Interpretation.

But God - a Second Reformation?

But God - a Second Reformation?

This is based on a recent talk given by Richard to the congregation at Longcroft. It is in some respects a follow-on from the earlier post But God, likewise going through the six "But God ..." quotes from the Gospels, and then asking the question as to whether God is able to do a new major work in the present era.

The 'Watch (1)' link is to the YouTube video in which Richard introduces the subject; the 'Watch (2)' link is to the actual talk at Longcroft (46 mins). The 'Read' link is to a copy of the slideshow.

N.B. During the recording at Longcroft, some of the slides were skipped too quickly to be read while the talk was given, so you will need to refer to the written copy of the slideshow for all the information.

Ancient Paths

Ancient Paths

In this video and article, Richard talks about a word given to him in conversation a few years ago. In Jeremiah 6:16 we read: "Stand by the roads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is; and walk in it, and find rest for your souls." (ESV).

In seeking after new ways and ideas, the Church has lost a lot by way of good traditions that existed from the time of the Refoormation up until the 20th Century. Just as the Reformation itself was something of a return to ancient paths in the reinstatement of Biblical teaching and thinking, so likewise today, we are in very great need something of a new Reformation and a return to the ancient paths.

Fulfilled Prophecy and the Last Days

Fulfilled Prophecy and the Last Days

There are two videos here, covering similar ground and referencing the same written article. The second video basically consolidates the material from the first.

The videos talk about the ways in which we can clearly see the fulfillment of prophecy right now in the 21st Century. Topics of importance include:-

  • The restoration of the nation of Israel and the trouble it has caused in the world.
  • Increase in travel, communication and knowledge.
  • The mocking of creation and the Flood. This trend began around the year 1830, and yet even in the early days, there was clear evidence in the fossil record that these were layed down in a major catastrophe (i.e. a recent worldwide flood).

Jesus Our Example in Times of Trial

In this video and article, Richard talks about the sacrifice that was made by Jesus on coming to earth and living the life as a human being. This should encourage us to follow His example when going through the various trials of life, and looking to God to give us the strength to carry us through.

What are Important Doctrines?

What are important doctrines?

In this video and article, Richard compares some examples of essential and non-essential doctrines that have been presented over the course of history. On the one hand we have the Nicene Creed which had to be defended against opposition, and later the return to justification by faith at the time of the Reformation. On the other hand however, there are things like the Temperance Movement, which whilst achieving some degree of good at the time, proved neverthless to be distractions. He then brings us right up to date by highlighting how essential issues such as creation and personal morality are being greatly overlooked.

The Spiritual World as a Type of 4th Dimension

This is to some degree a repeat of the earlier post The Spiritual World as a Fourth Dimension and references the same article. It is a little longer than the previous video and consolidates some of the ideas. They are both worth watching if you find this of interest.

Why Open Air Preaching

Why Open Air Preaching

In this video and article, Richard shares something of his personal testimony of how he came to start preaching on the streets of Britain from 2018 onwards. Unfortunately the last 2 minutes of the video are missing, but it is still well worth watching. This calling came out of the culmination of a process starting in the late 1990s, in which increasingly overwhelming evidence for creation and a young earth has come to light, with the main driving force eventually coming through the discovery of soft tissue in dinosaur bones. Richard has felt the burden to bring the message to the attention of the public so that people can at least hear the truth proclaimed.
