Genesis 1-11 and Old Bible Commentaries

In this video and article, Richard introduces some of his own research into the coverage of creation and the Flood in various Bible commentaries between about the years 1650 and 2000. A distinctive pattern occurs in that up to the mid 19th Century, every one talked about a literal 6-day creation and a universal global flood, but after that time, we see a loss of confidence in these things and a move towards long age thinking and a localised flood. What we can learn from this is that creationism is not a new thing from recent years. A 6-day creation and universal flood has been the belief of the Church throughout most of its age, and that it is only when the academic world began to reject these things in the mid 19th Century that thinking began to be compromised. If we look at the evidence before us, we can once again regain our confidence in Genesis 1 to 11.

The Lord who made Heaven and Earth

The Lord who made Heaven and Earth

In this video and article, Richard talks about the various references to "The Lord who made Heaven and Earth" that we find in Scripture. We see it in the giving of the Ten Commandments and also within various prayers that were offered up, in both the Old and New Testaments. The message here, is that much importance is given to God's role as Creator. We are now living in an age where this attribute of God is very much rejected, but we need to be challenged this seriously and to honour His role in creation, in the way that has been set out in Scripture.

Climate Change

In this video and article, Richard talks about environmental issues and climate change, and asks how we should view such matters. On the one hand, the video and article basically express support for the idea that we have a responsibility to care for the environment. On the other hand however, with regard to climate change, this is shown to be a somewhat complex issue with no easy straightforward answers, and it is left open for further thought and discussion.

Intercession and the Second Coming

In this video and article, Richard looks at the subject of intercession, citing the examples of Esther, Abraham, Jacob and Moses from the Old Testament. These ones were interceding in situations where something major was about to happen. This is equally true today, particularly as the Second Coming is at hand, thus creating an urgent need for us to pray for our nation, that people might find God.

Leviticus 23:1-3 - The Millenium?

Leviticus 23:1-3 - The Millenium?

In this video and article, Richard first refers to Levitcus 23, in which the Sabbath is presented as a feast. In the Ten Commandments it is portrayed as a rememberance of the fact that God created the world in six days and rested on the seventh. Scripture also tells us that with God, a day is as a thousand years (Ps 90:4, 2 Pet 3:8), and in the early church and with the Reformers, this was often taken as representing God's plan for 6000 years of human history followed by a millenial reign of Christ on earth. Also there is Hosea 6:2, which could be interpreted as 2000 years of Jewish repression followed by 1000 years of restoration. Whilst these things are open to interpretation and we cannot exactly predict the time of the Second Coming, it should at least give us the urgency that we are living in the last days.

Leviticus 23:17 - The Church

Leviticus 23:17 - The Church

Leviticus 23:17 is the only reference in the Old Testament to an offering that was to be made with leaven, and forms part of the instructions for the Feast of Pentecost. In the Bible, leaven is normally used as a picture of sin. Pentecost is a picture of the Church, as it was on this particular feast that the early Church was born. This serves as a reminder that whilst God has set us free from sin through the work of salvation, the Church is nevertheless made up of redeemed sinners, and as such, remains imperfect with people still hurting.

Joseph - A Type of Jesus

In this video and article, Richard talks about the story of Joseph in the Book of Genesis, drawing various parallels with the life and person of Jesus. This demonstrates how the story of Joseph is prophetic in nature, defending the Bible as an accurate revelation from God.

Genesis Chapter 2

In this video and article, Richard talks about Genesis chapter 2, particularly with respect to the creation of Eve from Adam, and asks the question as to why this happened after the main sequence of creation events. In providing an answer, a comparison is made between the marriage relationship and the relationship between Christ and the Church.

Israel and Prophecy

In this video and article, Richard discusses the way in which the restoration of the nation of Israel in the last days is prophesied in both the Old and New Testaments. He talks about how the fulfilment is to be seen before our very eyes, with the restoration of the nation in 1948 and the return of Jerusalem to Jewish control in 1967. As with other things, this presents us with clear evidence that the Bible is an accurate revelation of God.
