You may wish to refer back to The Historicist Interpretation of the Book of Revelation for some background information. In this video, Richard talks about how the mainstream view shifted from the historicist interpretation to the futurist interpretation in the 19th Century, and how Bible commentaries over the centuries reflect this. Whilst acknowledging the complexities involved in the interpretation of prophecy, Richard tends to lean towards a favourable view of the historicist interpretation, saying that if this is right, then we can argue that there are not many prophecies left to be fulfilled, thus raising the sense of urgency that we are living in the last days.
