Foundational Sins
This video and article are based on a study of how the Northern Kingdom of Israel under Jeroboam set up the two golden calves as objects of worship. This can be classed as a foundation sin, in that it established a form of false religion, completely undermined the ways of God, and laid the basis of how the nation would live for a long period of time. We ourselves could ask the question as to whether we are today living with the consequences of a foundational sin. Whilst our history shows various wrongdoings being dealt with (e.g. the slave trade), and also the rise of various evangelical revivals, it can neverthless be seen that we are living in the consequences of a foundational sin. From the 1820s onwards, new teaching about evolution began to undermine the position of God as creator. This has gone into the whole of the academic community and seriously affected society as a whole. We are told in Romans 1 that rejection of God as creator will lead to moral confusion, and we also see in 2 Peter 3, that we would see this happen in the last days. The Church needs to repent of this foundational sin.
