Review of ‘A Mousetrap for Darwin’

Review of ‘A Mousetrap for Darwin’

In this article, Richard refers to an article which reveiws the book ‘A Mousetrap for Darwin’ by Michael Behe. Professor Behe is a leading member of the Intelligent Design Movement, and this book is an update following his original book ‘Darwin’s Black Box’ from 25 years earlier. It addresses the issue of irreducible complexity, which is the idea that the design of a complex machine cannot evolve in phases, because all parts need to be functional for all the others to server any useful purpose. He uses the mousetrap as a simple illustration, as this is easier for the layman to understand than say, a complex protein molecule.

Ancient Paths

Ancient Paths

In this video and article, Richard talks about a word given to him in conversation a few years ago. In Jeremiah 6:16 we read: “Stand by the roads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is; and walk in it, and find rest for your souls.” (ESV).

In seeking after new ways and ideas, the Church has lost a lot by way of good traditions that existed from the time of the Refoormation up until the 20th Century. Just as the Reformation itself was something of a return to ancient paths in the reinstatement of Biblical teaching and thinking, so likewise today, we are in very great need something of a new Reformation and a return to the ancient paths.

Arch Collapses in National Park

Arch Collapses in National Park

In this video, Richard talks about sandstone arches and similar structures in the world’s landscape. The article cites a recent case (2024) of the collapse of one such structure, with such events being quite a frequent occurrence. It is claimed that these structures are millions of years old, and yet if one considers the rate at which sandstone is eroded, it is sensible to assume that these cannot last any longer than a few thousand years. We therefore have yet more evidence that the shape of the world’s landscape is the product of a recent worldwide flood.

Fulfilled Prophecy and the Last Days

Fulfilled Prophecy and the Last Days

There are two videos here, covering similar ground and referencing the same written article. The second video basically consolidates the material from the first.

The videos talk about the ways in which we can clearly see the fulfillment of prophecy right now in the 21st Century. Topics of importance include:-

  • The restoration of the nation of Israel and the trouble it has caused in the world.
  • Increase in travel, communication and knowledge.
  • The mocking of creation and the Flood. This trend began around the year 1830, and yet even in the early days, there was clear evidence in the fossil record that these were layed down in a major catastrophe (i.e. a recent worldwide flood).

Evidence for Intelligent Design

Evidence for Intelligent Design

For the first time in this series, Richard introduces an article from the Discovery Institute, which is the centre for the Intelligent Design Movement. This is a movement created by scientists who are convinced that there is overwhelming evidence in favour of intelligent design as opposed to random evolution. Whilst it encompasses a wider range of views than those of Biblical creationists, its material is nevertheless good and worth looking at. This article summarises a number of discoveries that have been made in the field of intelligent design. The embedded video (entitled “Untangler of Knots …”) is well worth a view.

Jesus Our Example in Times of Trial

Jesus Our Example in Times of Trial

In this video and article, Richard talks about the sacrifice that was made by Jesus on coming to earth and living the life as a human being. This should encourage us to follow His example when going through the various trials of life, and looking to God to give us the strength to carry us through.

Helium in Radioactive Rocks

Helium in Radioactive Rocks

In this video, Richard introduces an article about research that has been carried out into the levels of helium found in certain crystals within the earth’s strata. Helium is produced as a result of radioactive decay, but being a gas, should diffuse from the rocks over time. The observed levels of helium actually date the rocks at an age of about 6000 years, in accordance with the Biblical timeframe for creation. This, like the matter of soft tissue in dinosaur bones, provides clear evidence that the earth is young and not old. Richard also makes reference to the thoroughness with which the creation scientists carry out their research.

Our Eternal Future

Our Eternal Future

This post is a follow-on from the previous two days’ posts, and forms part of the conclusion of Richard’s Masters Degree research into modern mircales. Having come to the conclusion that God is real, and that the Bible is an accurate revelation of Him, we have to look at the whole matter of eternity and the choice that each individual has to make between eternal life and eternal judgement. In today’s article, Richard has compiled a list of the various references to eternity, made by Jesus within the record of the four Gospels. The sheer quantity and weight of these sayings can only go to show what an important issue this subject is.

A Very Significant Safeguarding Issue

[Posted on: 22 April 2025]

A Very Significant Safeguarding Issue

In the modern world, we are familiar with the concept of safeguarding. This may come in the form of safeguarding policies for those working with children, youth or vulnerable adults, but has also been seen in the likes of the measures imposed to protect the population from the COVID-19 pandemic. If safeguarding is seen as important in the physical realm, then how much more should we be taking it seriously in the spiritual realm?

This video and article come by way of a conclusion to Richard’s Masters Degree research into modern miracles (see yesterday’s post). If modern mircales confirm the reality of the God of Christianity and the Bible as an accurate revelation of Him, then we have to take very seriously what is said. In particular we need to take heed of the choice given to each individual to accept eternal like or face eternal judgement. This is safeguarding in the truest sense of the word.

Modern Miracles Dissertation (final draft)

[Posted on: 21 April 2025]

Modern Miracles Dissertation (final draft)

In this video, Richard introduces the final draft of his Masters Degree dissertation on modern miracles. Whilst the article itself may be heavy reading for many, the video is easy to listen to and well worth watching. In short:

  1. There is overwhelming evidence that miracles do occur in the world today, many of which are backed by medical records. If this is the case, then it can be reasonably concluded that the world is not a closed system where everything has a physical cause, but can be subject to outside influences.
  2. There is also evidence that the majority of modern miracles occur in the context of Christianity, and as such, there is a strong defence of the case for the God of Christianity, and hence the authority of the Bible.
  3. Given the authority of the Bible, we need to take seriously what it says, particularly in relation to eternity and salvation.
